Job Description:

ARDEX Americas (www.ArdexAmericas.com), is the Global industry leader in the manufacturing and development of high-performance specialty building materials.

To further drive expansion of our Tile and Stone Installation product systems throughout the North American market, we are immediately hiring for a FORMULATION CHEMIST with extensive experience of cement-based tile adhesives and cement-based products, to formulate, develop, and drive product development of our construction products.

We are also interested in hearing from Senior Formulation Chemists with team leadership experience.

This position is located at our North America Corporate Offices (serving the U.S., Canada, and Latin America), in Beaver County - 20 minutes North of Pittsburgh International Airport.

Key responsibilities

  • Formulates, develops and evaluates cementitious products for a variety of end-uses, utilizing professional chemical background and accepted company and industry procedures and techniques, in line with specific project requirements.
  • Performs evaluations and tests, in line with industry practices and / or specific project requirements.
  • Interprets laboratory and field test findings, to assess suitability of formulated product compared to company and industry standards, as defined by project goals. Reports findings to R&D, Marketing and ARDEX management team or others as required.
  • Works closely with Marketing Product Managers, Sales Leaders, and external customer groups, to develop new products and improve existing product performance.
  • Leads regular project review meetings with R&D Manager and other functional areas (i.e. Marketing, Quality Control, Technical, Production). Liaises with Global Group R&D.
  • Manages and leads projects/timelines for raw materials, localizations, product issues and new product development by allocating appropriate R&D resources.
  • Completes company-required documentation in connection with project assignment including laboratory notebooks, project reports, and new or revised product specifications,
  • Provides technical leadership to peers and subordinates

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience (depending on position) in formulation of cement-based products is essential. Construction industry experience is preferred.
  • Sustained track record of successful product development.
  • Ability to manage and move forward several projects simultaneously (project management and prioritization).
  • Professional image and customer focused attitude. Understands "Voice of the Customer".
  • Results driven and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work as an experienced professional with little direct supervision
  • Strong and effective communicator. Confident working with other departments and in some cases, communicating directly with customer groups.
  • Leadership and people management experience is advantageous. Strong commitment to people development.
  • Membership in appropriate technical associations desirable.
  • Effective writing and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet
  • Excellent time management, organizational, administration, attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening and team building skills.

  • Excellent business judgment; is decisive with strong influencing skills
  • Ability / willing to travel (10-20%). Minimal over-night travel may be required on occasion. Occasional international travel.

Education:

  • MS or Ph. D in Chemistry/ Polymer Science or Colloids, or, Bachelor’s in Chemistry with relevant industry experience
